October 2017.
Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has underscored that the U.S. government has been violating law for years by quietly supporting allies and partners of al-Qaeda, ISIL and other terrorist groups with money, weapons, and intelligence support to overthrow the Syrian government.
Commenting on a question sent to her by the Syriatimes e-newspaper’s reporter- by e-mail- about US intervention in Syria, the American politician said: “Under U.S. law it is illegal for any American to provide money or assistance to al-Qaeda, ISIS or other terrorist groups. If you or I gave money, weapons or support to al-Qaeda or ISIS, we would be thrown in jail.”
“ Yet the U.S. government has been violating this law for years, by quietly supporting allies and partners of al-Qaeda, ISIL, and other terrorist groups with money, weapons, and intelligence support, in their fight to overthrow the Syrian government,” she added, indicating that the U.S. government has strengthened al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations.
“The U.S. government has also been providing weapons and money to Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar and others who provide direct and indirect support to groups like ISIS and al-Qaeda in places like Syria and Yemen. This support has strengthened al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations,” Hawaii Democratic Representative stressed.
She pointed out that the U.S. resources are being used to strengthen the very terrorist groups. “We should alarm every American. The counterproductive regime change war in Syria, and our support for Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen, has caused great human suffering, created millions of refugees, caused tremendous loss of life, and has strengthened our enemies.”
Stop Arming Terrorists Act
The congresswoman underlined the need to end the U.S. government’s madness, indicating that she has introduced the stop arming terrorists act that prohibits any federal agency from using taxpayer dollars to support terrorist groups .
“We must stop arming terrorists. That’s why I introduced the Stop Arming Terrorists Act—legislation that would prohibit any Federal agency from using taxpayer dollars to provide weapons, cash, intelligence, or any support to al-Qaeda, ISIS and other terrorist groups, as well as prohibiting the government from providing weapons and money to other countries who are directly or indirectly supporting terrorists,” the member of U.S. congress concluded.
